It is easy enough to walk down to the sea front and there are a couple of bars and places to eat. The beach is a mix of stones and sand, but a shallow incline into the sea, which offers some great snorkelling opportunities. Plenty of fish, who don't seem that bothered by humans so you can swim along with them. "Hotel Excelsior is all about the location. It’s right in the centre of La Maddalena, with an amazing waterfront position where you can sit and watch the ferries come and go. I booked a sea view room, which was definitely worth it and easily the highlight of the stay.

"The room was very cute and the communication was great. You also can’t get a more convenient location. The views were fantastic. The property could use some upkeep- everything in the bathroom is loose for example : the faucet, the toilet paper holder etc. but that can be relatively easily fixed. I would recommend to the owners to provide some water in the room since the water in the bathroom is not potable. I’d say the one thing helpful to know is that the ferries smell- and you will be...
